all the sewing ladies, all the sewing ladies..

26 01 2010

The girlie has been playing too much of that popular Beyonce song.  I’ve been coming up with my own lyrics in my head, as addressed in the title of this post…

Question for my sewing friends:

I used to buy my sewing needles in bulk, but only recently realized that I’m woefully short.  The girl couldn’t find a #12 needle at all in the collection.  So….  I need to get some more, and need some advice –

Where do you buy YOUR sewing needles?  Do you buy in bulk?

I used to buy them on a group buy, and now cannot.

So I had to go the UPS office to drop off two big boxes.

This lady in a humongous SUV pulls into the no parking zone, blocking the door. At this point I was walking to the doors, and now had to circle her car.

She hustles past me and grabs the largest cart they had, just as I am reaching for it, all the while talking on her cell phone.

Fine, I take the smaller cart. I pass her as she is still talking on her cell phone, not able to open her door, due to too many hand gestures.

I load my freezer box and large case on the little cart, and head back to the building.

Lady has gotten her two small packages and is standing beside her car, still on her phone. She sees me coming, slams her phone shut, and pushes ahead to get in line. Nice.

*She doesn’t know that I have a secret! It’s called a corporate account, so I don’t HAVE to stand in line!*

I push my items in the Out door and leave them by the counter, as I’ve done a hundred times before.

As the Out door is opening for me to leave, I hear the guy behind the counter say to her “These are fedex labels. You need to go across town to drop these off!”

Karma wins. Don’t mess with Karma.

Happy New Year! and sewing tessuti…

My resolutions:

  1. sew more – I need the therapy
  2. dye more – when it is warmer
  3. be there more – don’t let work monopolize my brain waves when I am home
  4. in matters of work – be the duck.  Let the stuff roll like water rolls off a duck.  Be the duck.

In sewing matters, I’m working on the Sew Tessuti Favorite top.  Here is the pattern:  Look at the top of the right column for the free download.  At first blush, it looks to fit, all but in the arms – the body has over 60″ at the chest, but the arms are only 9.5″ around – it requires a light fluid knit to make this one.  I’ve moved the seam down to fit my arms less snugly, and added 3 inches to the length, more appropriate for michigan weather.  Found a well aged piece of black knit with white swirlie scribbles from when Textile Studio sold fabrics (this one is at least two years old).  We shall see how it goes.
