Is there an entomologist in the house?

This spider has taken up residence in the bush beside the walkway to my front door.  He/She/It is rebuilding its web after the torrential storms we had.  Looking for ideas on the safety of leaving he/she/it alone to co-exist peacefully with us… i.e. Is this thing poisonous?

Personally, spiders give me the willies and nightmares, but I’m happy to leave them alone if they eat more than their weight in other bugs. I couldn’t get a shot of the other side without disturbing the poor thing, as the web is spanning multiple bushes and any jostling moves the web.  The web was in tatters yesterday, as evidenced in the photos, and the spider has made significant progress in getting it back together.
