And now, a cone break.

22 02 2009

This is not my idea, but S needed shots of cones.  Yes, I have taken pictures of cones at Disney World now, and it appears that they have a skittles rainbow of color.

More Groupie Crafting with a side of fun…

3 10 2008

S came up with a new slogan he wanted for a shirt to wear to the next Gandalf Murphy concert (October 17).  I embroidered this up for him in the midst of working on my dress, and he graced me with a modeling.

Then, ummm, we were overtaken by a kid who decided that her dad having a photo session alone was unacceptable…..

Have a lovely weekend everyone…..!

:)

A belated birthday to my big guy…

22 09 2008

Yesterday was S’s birthday, but he was sick, so we spent most of the evening helping him out.  We’ve all had a bout of colds going around – it happens nearly every year when school starts.  His cold just had really bad timing.

For those of you who got here from his coney blog (you know who you are – you clicked on his links), please…  Go back and leave him a comment for a happy birthday.

Thanks…..

Dance Your Cares Away.

28 04 2008

The Daddy Daughter Dance was this last week. Here are a few pre-dance shots for your enjoyment… Glitter Glue Princess decided that the boutonnière didn’t look good with her dad’s polo shirt, so we used it as a hair adornment.

I guess this makes me a groupie, right?

27 02 2008

I promised S a while back I would embroider him a shirt for wearing to gandalf murphy concerts.

It turns out there is a concert this coming weekend in Philadelphia we are attending.

Well, I finally got not one, but 3 completed…  The top one and the red one are for S and the other black one is for me…

The derby-bowler hat is one I drew out.  I needed an icon for the band, and decided that this joaziah’s hat was the best thing to use (that, and I couldn’t draw an accordian!).

Only groupies would do their crafts in order to wear to concerts right?

*THIS* is how he spends his time on the computer?!?!

3 02 2008

S has a new pseudonym – he is the Malodorous Dr. Forrester over on Dr. Forrest’s Cheese Factory.Yes, he contributes really, really bad out-of-print music, for your listening enjoyment, if you like that sort of thing. His self-proclaimed title is a homage to Dr. Forrester on Mystery Science Theater….

So, here is his shameless plug – enjoy, drink in the cheeziness that lies in our music closet. Just don’t blame me in the end for any pain and suffering you may incur from listening… :)

Thankful for

26 11 2007

I know this is a bit late for Thanksgiving, but hey, better late than never.

Thankful for:

My Loving, Giving, Devoted Groom, who accepts me for who I am, complete with my idiosyncracies:

My Wonderful, Brilliant, Quizzical Daughter, whose profundity amazes me every day:

Now that this week is over…

5 11 2007

This has been one of those crazy weeks that I am glad only happen on a rare occasion. This is really the first chance I’ve had to update.

Saturday we flew to PA to go to the hillbilly pirate ball… Uneventful, except I really liked the “watch for falling rock” signs as we drove…. I wasn’t quick enough with my camera, though they should have put a few more of those signs, as the rocks looked more precarious in other places…

We ate in full gear at a little cafe called “Through the Looking Glass Cafe” – with an Alice in Wonderland theme… They had the world’s smallest public bathroom, and I attempted to put on my corset in there – not a *wise* thing to attempt.

On to the party.

The theatre was just cool. Fully Adorned. Kris and Kim manned the sound and video (they were showing old treasure island, lil abner and others on a back screen). Someone made a sock monkey version of the band that I just had to have a picture of:

I have a secret thing for sock monkeys – I just love the little guys. Not just these, but sock monkeys in general…

Shots of the band:

Some people had the most wonderfully cool ideas for costumes for this show. One family came as “the band”

One fellow came as the coffee guy, but I didn’t see a shot in the pictures S took.

It was great fun, and we will be doing it again next year. I’ve already decided what I will be. I’m just going to need a mountain of long glow sticks to do it…. He he he…

Glitter Glue Princess’s halloween party was another event of this week. Here are a few pictures of kidlets from her class…

Yes, her teacher is an ice cream cone…

This fella came as a grumpy old man. He even powdered his hair to be gray, but as soon as he stepped out in the wind, all the powder blew out of his hair. Regardless, it was still cute – he played it well as evidenced in the pic…

Now that these events are all behind us, I had a chance to sew a new fleece jacket – mine was only a year old, but I question the quality of the fabric as the sleeves look like ratty cats now. More on that, and other sewing things, later.

Arrgh, or how to dress like a pirate…

12 10 2007

So, now for the long awaited pirate garb. This has monopolized my sewing time for the last three weeks and I’m just now coming up for air!

Here is my pirate outfit – pardon the dazed look and frazzled hair, it was a long day at work before this was shot:

The chemise is hand drafted and made of pima cotton- not bad for my first try yes? The 8 point skirt is hand dyed after being sewn together, also hand drafted. And the bodice, well, I cheated and bought it off ebay. But….. It is SO cool, man! Look at this thing! Who could turn this down if they were going to a pirate party??? (Besides, I couln’t find the fabric anywhere and I didn’t want a crash course in corsetry!)

Here is S’s outfit:

The vest is a thoroughly modified and adjusted version of the Simplicity Pirates of the Caribbean pattern, but I added fabric to the back, added side slits, drafted a facing to the remove the lining (I made the thing out of stretch satin backed suede, for goodness sakes!) and did a full waist adjustment to give it more ease. There are 15 buttons down the front, but lucky me, the fabric store was selling random metal buttons by the bag for $2! The top is another pattern redraft after my last post on stupid sizing. During the photo session, S complained about the back being too narrow in the top. This will be definitely remade a bit later. I really thinking of hand drafting it too after my success with my outfit and finding some lovely tutorials on the net.

And every pirate needs accessories yes?

The pouch is for me – obviously there is no place to stash anything in my outfit, I drafted the embroidery myself. The nametag was S’s idea – note the obscure Dread Pirate Roberts reference from the Princess Bride. We’d discussed adding “ask me about my multi pillage discount”, but obviously there wasn’t enough room.

Now….. to go finish the facings in a Minnie Mouse shirt and hunt for some missing ears!
