A mini Minnie… with a side of canned ham.

13 10 2007

Glitter Glue Princess was in true form today, and I have the pictures to prove it!

I asked her to model her shirt for the Minnie costume and I got this in return.

After a bit of persuasion, I got a couple of “normal” photos.

Still can’t find those blasted ears.  At least if we have trouble locating them she still has her trusty ballcap.

Disney Days 5 and 6

9 04 2007

One small addition to Day 4 - Glitter Glue Princess went on the Barnstormer roller coaster with me and proclaimed that all roller coasters are evil. Note to self - Do NOT attempt to take this kid on roller coasters… Ever! Guess I’ll have to hit them by myself *sniff*.

Day 5 - we slept in since everyone was tuckered out and the sleep deficit had been building and building. We went to animal kingdom first. Tried to go to the new Nemo show, but the line was long at 45 minutes before the show, so we said “Nah!” Wandered around a bit, looked at the animals, went to the boneyard, GGP refused to go on Dinosaur (too scary!!!), but let us go to “It’s tough to be a bug”. Back to the hotel.

Posing with Meeko:

Playing in the Boneyard:

Went to ’50’s Prime Time Restaurant based on S’s love of their pot roast. I had the same this time.

S wanted this pic for use in his DVD making - don’t ask me why I photographed a TV, I have no real answer…

After dinner and another run through Muppets 3-D, we decided to go see the fireworks at Epcot. Found that we could take a boat from MGM to Epcot. Unfortunately it began to rain as we got there, and being wet is not so much fun. We watched the band “the British Invasion”, considered going over to see Paul Revere and the Raiders, who were the concert for the evening at the flower festival, but we petered out before then and headed back to the Lodge… Missed the fireworks since we didn’t want to sit in the rain.

Day 6 - we had to be on the bus at 11:30 for the airport. We ate breakfast in bed, S and Glitter Glue Princess spent the morning in the pool, got to watch this little boy be crowned the grand slipper slide opener, which she thought was really cool. We packed and hauled our luggage to the magical express (love, love, love this service!). While we were waiting at the airport, we found this little girl and her mom who were on the same plane coming down - the mom sat next to S on the way there. The little girl showed us a photo of her sitting on a gator holding it’s jaws closed with a HUGE smile on her face - unbelievable! We swapped stories, and had a good time waiting.

Considerations: Next time we do this type of trip, it will NOT be on spring break, ever again - two hour waits for rides is insane, and the strollers were impossible to maneuver around. Can anyone recommend a time that they think is the best to go? I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts.

I cannot stress how nice it is to stay on disney property, but it has it’s downsides too - for one, you are a captive audience, and it is hard to get off site to do anything else. It would have been nice to go to the Seuss thing at Universal and Sea World, but that will have to be for another trip. We’d definitely consider the Wilderness Lodge again over the Animal Kingdom Lodge, mainly because of the boat ride. Loved that. It has been *suggested* that it would be very nice to stay on the monorail, so I will consider that if we go on an off season…

I love the dining plan - it was wayyyy too much food. But, the majority of the kids meal choices really, really stink - I’d share my meal with the Princess simply because she was stuck eating alot of peanut butter and jelly/hotdogs/grilled chicken. I think Disney needs to really rethink how they serve kids - my daughter got all hauty about the appetizer choices on more than one occasion (Note to disney - my kid doesn’t consider chicken noodle soup or lettuce an appetizer, especially when I have bruschetta).

Oh well, back to real world…

Yeah, this pic is from last november, but displays our collective mood about coming back. At least S hasn’t denied the fact we are back in Michigan like he did last year…. This year, we came home to snow and bitter cold - yay!

Disney Day 4 - or my life with Minnie Mouse…

9 04 2007

Day 4 - well, she wasn’t Minnie the WHOLE day, but got called it an awful lot. Even got a security citation for impersonating a character by a security guard! We started out going to Epcot to get fastpasses for soarin’ - the line was already 2 hours long at that point. Ours were for 3 to 4 pm - fine, that fits around dinner at 5. We got in line for the Nemo ride at the Seas and it was proclaimed a bit too babyish per the glitter glue princess - she was not altogether impressed… Ate at Sunshine Seasons Restaurant and watched the masses. Went back to Club Cool again and got loaded up on soda again…

The pirate ship topiary was up for the flower festival, so we decided to take a batch of photos of it…

We didn’t wait around to see what the skywriting was about - all we know is that it was “Jesus 4″ something… Back to the Wilderness Lodge for some rest and swimming (pick up on the fact we did this nearly every day?).

For our return, the glitter glue princess donned her Minnie Redondo Skirt, Ears, Minnie Socks, Minnie Shirt. Looked like a total Minnie Wannabee. This was when she got the securit citation…

Rode Soarin’, then rode the monorail. Got to ride in the front on the way to Chef Mickeys!

Minnie absolutely adored her outfit, and was the first character she met that evening…

We didn’t wait around for Goofy. The place was packed and loud, but here is a family pic they took and I scanned…

Off to Magic Kingdom after that, watched the parade and fizzled out by then…

Day 5 - three parks in one day!

Disney Day 3 - and way more princess than YOU can handle…

8 04 2007

Day 3 started out by taking a cab to Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique - very glad we did, because there was a huge accident that really snarled things up as we were leaving… Fairy Godmother Rose helped the glitter glue princess in her transformation, as seen here. She was soooo sweet to her. The glitter got on everything, but she really enjoyed herself…

Wish I knew how to link the photo session that the photopass people took. At the very least, here is a scan of the photo we got with our hotel package…

After that and an hour ride to get to magic kingdom due to an accident, we went to Mickey’s Philharmagic, Small World, Haunted Mansion, and the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, which opened the day before. She was put up on the screen and they said “All hail the princess of Michigan!”. She loved it.

At Mickey’s Philharmagic:

We also got to meet Mr and Mrs Bunny:

She took this picture by the castle:

After a break at the hotel for the afternoon, we went to the Grand Floridian Resort for dinner at 1900 Park Faire. She got to meet Cinderella and *gasp* Prince Charming…

We ended the day by riding a few more rides at Magic Kingdom, then going home to wash her hair - it was too tight to wear overnight and besides the mountain of glitter created a ring in the bath! She was content with one day as a Princess.

On to Day 4, or my life with a mouse….

Photos? Yes, I’m forcing you to look. Disney - Days 1 and 2.

7 04 2007

Well, you all lucked out - day one at MGM for Fantasmic - I forgot my camera. But that’s o.k. I make up for it with many, many more photos on the rest of the days! We ate at Mama Melrose, and gorged ourselves. With the Fantasmic package, we got there early enough that we had front row seats. People kept saying we would get wet - BAH! It was mostly just a mist, but the fire on the water was hot enough to be uncomfortable.

Day 2, roaming around Epcot. The Flower and Garden show was starting later in the week and all the topiaries were being installed. Such fun!

This was waiting for the bus at Wilderness Lodge - we discovered early on that the buses to the lodge usually went to the campground too, so it took longer than anticipated to get to the parks that way - we more often than not took a boat if offered the option, but then it usually also went to the campground - really odd…

ggp and dwarves O.k. Enough topiaries for now…. The soarin tickets were too far out - like for after 8, and it was only like 10:30!, so we explored other things instead. The kiddo really liked club cool, and found a booth out in the world area to buy new jibbits for her crocs.

That night we ate at Liberty Tree Tavern:

The highlight of the day - meeting Minnie…. The food was good, and I refrained from photographing food for the entire trip…

Back…. And tuckered out.

6 04 2007

We’re ba-ack.  Overfed, overtired, and it is snowing up here!?!?

I’ll post some lovely pictures of our trip tomorrow.  We have kitties who need snuggling at the moment…

Now it’s time to say goodbye….

1 04 2007

We’ll be gone for a few days.  Off to disney to eat dole whips (mmmm…. dole whips), ride it’s a small world, watch fireworks and meet characters.  I’ll fill this with many many pictures upon my return.

If everyone else jumped off the cliff….?

25 03 2007

I see so many of my friends showing their work on a blog roll, so I thought “I guess it is time for me to do the same…..”

I’ve been sewing up a storm of princess gear for our pending trip to visit the Mouse. Glitter Glue Princess requested outfits for all of the character dinners we plan to attend, and the sum of them has occupied my spare time this month.

So here goes:

Outfit 1 - for one of our dinners with Minnie Mouse. It is a redondo swirl skirt out of Minnie Mouse dot with black cotton swirl.

I learned a bit with this one - with the redondo skirt, you should add length at the top of the swirl piece, not the bottom. Also, I learned that I stink at applique, so I went to ebay and purchased the design for the embroidery machine.

Outfit 2 - a princess ensemble, entirely spec’d by the glitter glue princess, for having our hair done at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and for dinner at 1800 Park Faire with Cinderella. This outfit was from Ottobre Design, issue 2/2004, #’s 22 & 25. The entire thing is made of cotton from Equilter.

Outfit #3 - another Minnie Mouse ensemble, using the Sasha Wave skirt pattern and same fabrics as before.

You can see the top wave better in this photo:

Outfit #4 (this one has no particular event for wear, just for fun) - A tiered skirt from Disney fairy cotton, and a tee from Ottobre 1/2007 that I embroidered. I put an edge on the skirt of the knit from the shirt.

Learned a few things here too - when trimming a woven with a knit, add a bit of ease to the top of the knit, else it will pucker when pressed. Also, when gathering with elastic in your bobbin, make sure it fits your kid’s arm BEFORE you sew it down.

Here is a bit of the skirt fabric, since it is not readily viewable from her stance:

The last few things need to get done - I’m going to make her a normal slip without tulle, because I’m betting that she will HATE that on her legs.  Also, I want to make a few skirts for me as well…
